Powerful storms and tornadoes in the US states of Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas have led to great destruction and at least fifteen deaths, two of which are children, reports AP.
Seven deaths, including the two children, were reported in Cooke County in northern Texas near the Oklahoma border after a tornado plowed through a rural area near a mobile home park.
– There is only a trace of rubbish left. The devastation is quite severe, Cooke County Sheriff Ray Sappington told the AP.
A nearby truck stop, where a dozen people sought shelter, was also destroyed, while more than 10,000 homes were without power in the region as a result of the storms.
In Arkansas, at least two people have died and several have been injured. While emergency services were still responding to emergency calls, according to Melody Kwok, a communicator in Benton County, Arkansas.
– We are still doing search and rescue work right now. This is a very active situation, she said.
