Several people, including two policemen, have died after gunmen opened fire on a synagogue and an Orthodox church in the Russian city of Derbent. Among the dead are also a priest and a church guard.
Two policemen are said to have died in connection with shots fired from automatic weapons at an Orthodox church and a synagogue in the Russian sub-republic of Dagestan, Israeli media and the Reuters news agency report with reference to the Russian Ministry of the Interior.
In connection with the shooting, several people were also injured and the synagogue is now said to be on fire after the shooting. Images purported to show the attack show fire and smoke billowing from a building.
Priest and churchwarden among the dead
According to several media, a priest and a church guard are also among the dead.
The church and synagogue are located in the city of Derbent.
A police outpost is also said to have been fired upon, with several injured as a result. However, the police station is approximately 12 kilometers from Derbent.
