At least eight people have died in the US state of Kentucky as a result of widespread flooding, which affected the eastern parts of the state as well as western Virginia and southern West Virginia.
People have been forced to flee onto rooftops from the masses of water where they were rescued with the help of helicopters and boats.
“This event is devastating,” wrote Gov. Andy Beshear on Twitter, adding that more rain is expected, which could worsen the situation.
