At least six people have been killed and several more injured in an earthquake in eastern Afghanistan.

The earthquake had a magnitude of 5.3 and occurred along the border with Pakistan, but was said to have been felt as far as the capital, Kabul.

Afghanistan is often hit by severe earthquakes, especially along the Hindukush mountain range. In June, over 1,000 people were killed in the border area with Pakistan in the deadliest earthquake in Afghanistan in over 20 years.
