Several dead and hundreds injured after explosion in Nagorno-Karabakh

The explosion occurred on Monday at a gas station near the city of Stepanakert. According to Armenian authorities, dozens of the injured are in critical condition. Witnesses say there were long lines at the gas station as many try to flee Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia.

Power will soon be taken over by Baku after an Azeri blitzkrieg last week.

Thousands leave Nagorno-Karabakh

On Sunday, David Babayan, an adviser to the leader of the Armenian separatists in Nagorno-Karabakh, stated that all Armenians living in the region should leave and move to Armenia. According to him, otherwise they risk being exposed to “ethnic cleansing” by Azerbaijan.

On Tuesday, Armenian authorities reported that roughly 13,500 people have crossed the border into Armenia.

Azerbaijan has declared victory

Tensions over Nagorno-Karabakh culminated last week in fighting as Azeri forces launched what they called an anti-terror operation in the area. On Wednesday, the Armenian separatists in the region laid down their arms.

Azerbaijan now claims to have full control over the areas. Over 30 people are said to have died and hundreds injured in the fighting.

Ilham Aliyev, the president of Azerbaijan, has denied that the country has planned to ethnically cleanse Nagorno-Karabakh. According to him, they have nothing against its Armenian population.
