At least six people have died after a volcanic eruption in Indonesia. The volcano Lewtobo Lakilaki, located on the island of Flores in eastern Indonesia, erupted shortly before midnight local time.
Nine deaths were initially reported, but this was later adjusted down following updated information from local authorities. At least 10,000 people live in areas affected by the outbreak.
Several nearby villages have been forced to evacuate due to the lava. Pictures show how some of them are completely covered in ash and others are burning.
The warning level has now been raised to the highest on a four-point scale, and the public is asked to stay at least seven kilometers from the crater.
The island nation of Indonesia is located in the so-called Ring of Fire in the Pacific Ocean, an area of intense seismic and volcanic activity, and is therefore frequently affected by volcanic eruptions.
