Several dead after train accident in Egypt

It was on Saturday that two passenger trains collided on the railway in the city of Zagazig, which is located northwest of Cairo. A major rescue effort was launched and more than 30 ambulance transports assisted in the work of getting the passengers out of the trains.

At least three people, including two children, are said to have died in the accident and 49 people are said to have been injured. Several have been taken to hospital and five are being treated for critical injuries, according to the Egyptian Ministry of Health.

According to the country’s authority responsible for the railway, one of the trains must have been on its way from the city and the other on its way there when the accident occurred. The collision took place in a central part of the city, many witnessed the incident.

Train accidents are common in Egypt because the country’s infrastructure is dated and has not been upgraded, despite promises from the government. Last last month there was a similar accidentthen in Alexandria, where two people lost their lives.
