Among the dead are 15 women, 13 men and a child, according to the prosecutor.

According to initial information, the accident occurred due to a mechanical failure of the bus.

“We deeply regret the accident,” wrote state governor Salomon Jara on social media after the accident.

19-year-old lost his mother

The bus would take passengers from the capital Mexico City to Santiago de Yosondua. One of the passengers who survived the crash is 19-year-old Diego Ivan Ruiz. He was on his way to his relatives along with his mother.

– She was the only one I had, he says in an interview with Reuters.

Fatal accidents are common in Mexico, writes AFP. Among other things, it is due to high speeds and poor quality of the vehicles.
