Several children have been killed in Daraa in Syria when an explosive object detonated.
According to the state-run Sana news agency, seven children were killed and two more people were injured when the object planted by “terrorists” exploded, according to a police source.
However, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) gives a different figure, stating that “eight children of various ages were killed and another injured” in the explosion.
According to SOHR, militias are accused of having deployed the object, to target an unidentified person in the area.
It was in the southern Daraa province that the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad began in 2011, which was the starting point for the bloody civil war in the country. In 2018, the Assad regime regained control of the area after a Russian-backed ceasefire.
More than 507,000 people have been killed in the war and millions have been forced to flee.
