Several ambulance uniforms have been stolen – great concern

Several ambulance uniforms have been stolen.
Chief physician Patrik Söderberg believes that the theft is very unusual.
– What we are worried about is that you have to use the clothes to get into places or contexts where you are not supposed to be, he says.

There have been two thefts of ambulance clothing in a short time in the Stockholm area. On the night of Monday, the thieves attacked an ambulance station and during the night of Tuesday they took uniforms from an ambulance out on a mission.

Patrik Söderberg is chief physician for prehospital care in Region Stockholm and he is very concerned about the thefts.

– We have not been involved in this before to any extent at all. It is very unusual and very worrying, he says.

“It’s worrying”

The clothes that have been stolen are fully equipped uniforms and in addition they have protective masks. Patrik Söderberg does not know why the thieves have targeted ambulance clothing, but he calls for “the greatest possible vigilance” regarding what has happened.

– It is worrying as the ambulance has a lot of trust in society and we help all people, both victims and perpetrators, with medical care in complex situations. What we are worried about is that you have to use the clothes to get into places or contexts where you are not supposed to be, he says.

The clothes can be used for that

How they work specifically with security right now, the chief doctor does not want to talk about publicly. But information has gone out to everyone who works, and Patrik Söderberg believes that they want to raise awareness of what has happened and that everyone should keep their eyes open.

– You should, for example, ask for identification if you are unsure. We are concerned that our trust will be damaged by this, he says.

What could these clothes be used for?

– You can imagine, for example, that you want to get into an emergency department to access medicine. There are all kinds of things you can think of.
