Seven soldiers have been killed in an explosion in Togo, the country’s military says. The details of the attack are unclear.
The attack took place in the Tone prefecture near the border with Burkina Faso in the north, where a jihadist uprising in the Sahel area threatens to spill over to several countries along the West African coast.
In June, the Togolese government announced a state of emergency in the northern prefectures due to the risk of attacks by Islamist groups north of the border.
