At 03.25 an alarm was received by the police about a fire in an apartment building in Hovslätt, south of Jönköping. The fire came from a basement storage room, which resulted in heavy smoke in the corridor and stairwell. A total of 16 people were in the property at the time, seven of them must have had to be taken to hospital after the evacuation. The extent of the damage is unclear.
Investigated as arson
The emergency services managed to put out the fire after an hour and then stayed behind for follow-up.
– We have started a preliminary investigation with the criminal classification of arson, the scene is cordoned off and there will be a technical investigation of the crime scene shortly, says Torbjörn Lindqvist, officer on duty at the police.
