#SessionLive x 2 with Julia Sarr and Carolina Katún

Julia Sarr, 1time #SessionLive guest for the album release Njaboot.

It is always with as much singularity and elegance that Julia Sarr walks through his time and continues his quest for a Wolof song uninhibited by all the anchors of tradition. In this new album njaboot composed with the talented pianist and producer Fred Soul, Julia’s mezzo-soprano voice offers this intense breath of the soul of griots, out of identity drawers.

She draws all her sensitivity from her roots, a moment of delicacy where Africa meets Jazz.

Julia will never tire of singing about love, faith, immigration, childhood, but also the societal theme of forced marriage or the missing father “Yéné, Nobel bi, Jaya, Doynawar, Laamin, Njaboot…” Her songs have an imprint of freedom and poetry, like treasures to be discovered.

Then we receive Carolina Katun #SessionLive for the release of Ritmos de tu Ser.

Revealed in 2018 with a first album Al Silenciothe critically acclaimed Mexican-Swiss singer Carolina Katun is back with a new album. Accompanied by Pierre Perchaud on the guitar, Laura Caroni on the cello and Arthur Alard on percussion, the deep voice of Carolina Katún is at the service of a repertoire exploring a universe that is both poetic and poignant, but also committed through powerful and delicate compositions. Atypical, nomadic, sometimes lyrical or minimalist, Carolina Katún deploys her melodies on subtle arrangements and deep texts. The result of compositions whose texts evoke in particular the acceptance of gender diversity, humanism and awareness of ecological issues, this album will be released on Jazzland, Bugge Wesseltoft’s label.

Whether “padre mujerevokes with intensity and finesse the question of gender identity (witness the touching clip directed by Thibaut Ponce), the album takes its name from the song “Ritmos de tu ser”, which begins with these words: “Alarga tu silencio, hasta que maduren, ritmos de tu ser», which could be translated as «widen your silence until the rhythms of your being mature». This invitation to welcome the void within us, in order to encounter our deep interiority, finds an echo in the way Carolina Katún knows how to purify his music and let it breathe, in contrast to a world in perpetual agitation in which he has sometimes become hard to let the silence carry you.

quien sabeaddresses with melancholic tenderness our denial of the fate that seems to await our nurturing planet. ” Who knows when we’ll take care of the Earth as it should be ? Without judgement, Carolina Katún questions this uncertain future where our children will have to evolve in an upset nature. What if one of the answers was to listen to that voice within us that makes us understand that we belong to something much larger than our mere individuality? Perfectly blending Latin American sounds with the colors of jazz, Carolina Katún wishes to gently approach subjects close to her heart, always with her unique touch, tinged with poetry. Like the mountainous landscapes of the cover, this album offers us opportunities to open spaces within ourselves, to dive into our silences and to find links between us and the immensity.
