#SessionLive x 2 Dhafer Youssef and Insolito Universo

The #SessionLive splits into 2 to offer a first playground to the Tunisian singer-songwriter Dhafer Youssef. Then a second to the Venezuelan trio Insolito Universo.

Our 1er guest is Dhafer Youssef for the album release Streets of Minaret #Tunisia.

Dhafer Youssef discovers music through religion. At the age of six, he sang at weddings organized in his native village of Téboulba, 25 kilometers from Monastir. Then he practices relentlessly on his instrument, until he acquires perfect mastery of it. To the point that on stage, he is reminiscent of those “Guitar Heroes” of the 70s, as much by his technique and his virtuosity, as by the energy he releases on stage. It was still necessary, after all these concerts in shambles, across Europe, Turkey, the United States that the sacred fire does not remain. And this ambition: that this new album be the height of the musicians who have contributed to shaping it. ” Usually I compose the music firstexplains Dhafer. Then, I go looking for musicians who could interpret it. With Street of Minarets, I did the exact opposite. It was a new experience for me. »

Dhafer Youssef.

Herbie Hancock is among his top picks. His wife suggests writing to him. O surprise, he responds immediately and agrees to play on his album. On the express condition that it is also on his own. Herbie has played on several Miles Davis albums. Just like Marcus Miller, another musician than Dhafer invites to recording sessions at Sunset Studio, in Los Angeles. There, the magic operates with other exceptional musicians: Dave Holland (double bass), Nguyên Lê (guitar), Vinnie Colaiuta (drums) and Ambrose Akinmusire (trumpet). Excuse a bit. Dhafer Youssef could have been crushed by the weight of these icons and not find his place. Listening to Street of Minarets, it’s quite the opposite. He was nourished by their experiences and their musicality, without losing what makes his musical identity: this bridge between East and West; between traditional music, Indian and Arabic music and classical or jazz.

Insolito Universe.

Then we receive the group Unusual Universe for the album release Ese Puerto Exists #Venezuela

The project Insolito Universo is inspired by very diverse sources such as psychedelic folk, experimental music and, very particularly, traditional music from Venezuela: joropos, waltzes, tonadas, merengues and Afro-Venezuelan music. With the “anthropophagous” desire of tropicalists, the group feeds on all these influences to build a unique sound, taking Venezuelan music to unexpected terrains.
