A café owner is sentenced by the Göta Court of Appeal for causing bodily harm after serving a cake containing peanuts to a nut allergy sufferer, reports P4 Jönköping.
It was at the beginning of last year that a woman ordered a cake at a café in Jönköping. Due to her allergy, the woman asked if the cake contained nuts, which the staff said it did not. However, the cake turned out to contain peanut butter and the woman suffered an allergic reaction and was forced to go to hospital, according to P4.
The café owner was acquitted in the district court, but the Court of Appeal considers that the accused is obliged to know the content of his pastries and therefore sentences the café owner to a daily fine of a total of SEK 3,000, writes SVT Jönköping.
