Iran has significantly increased its layer of high -ranking uranium in recent months, according to a report from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Iran is estimated to have almost 275 kilos of uranium, which is enriched up to 60 percent, according to the latest quarterly report from the IAEA, which several media has taken part in. This is an increase of over 92 kilos since the last report was written in November. The increase is “seriously worrying,” the body writes in the report.
In December, Tehran announced plans to increase the production of highly enriched uranium to 60 percent, which is a short step from the 90 percent level needed to manufacture nuclear weapons. Iran is the only state without nuclear weapons that enrich uranium to 60 percent, according to the IAEA.
During his first term of office, Donald Trump was unilaterally returning the United States from an agreement with Tehran from 2015. The agreement meant that sanctioning was replaced by restrictions on Iran’s nuclear programs. Since then, several alarms have come that Iran is about to manufacture nuclear weapons – something that the regime in Tehran refuses.
On Monday, new conversations were held between Iran and Germany, France and the United Kingdom on Iran’s nuclear program.
On Tuesday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met his Russian ditto, Sergei Lavrov, and then stated that Iran in the nuclear energy issue will move forward “in collaboration and coordination with our friends in Russia and China”.
Araghchi then also dismissed direct conversations with the United States on the issue and said Iran will never negotiate under pressure, threats or sanctions.
