Publishing a system update for the said vulnerability, Apple shared the note that the update is recommended to all users.
iPhone 6S and all later iPhone models from system vulnerability; iPads of the 5th generation and later; all iPad Pro and iPad Air 2 models; and all Mac computers running macOS Monterey may be affected.
Speaking to the Guardian, Rachel Tobac, CEO of security company SocialProof Security, said the vulnerability meant that hackers could take all administrative access to these devices and thus act as the owner of the device.
Noting that people such as activists and journalists, especially in front of the public, “may be the target of sophisticated, state-level espionage”, Tobac underlined the need to update the system quickly.
Apple did not share the information on how many users were affected by the system vulnerability.
Companies that develop commercial espionage programs, such as the Israeli NSO Group, are known to exploit such system vulnerabilities.
