Petra Vlhova from Slovakia fell badly in the giant slalom race. Norwegian star Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, on the other hand, previously made revelations about his wild accident last weekend.
This winter, the Alpine Skiing World Cup has seen numerous injuries, and some of these have happened to top skiers. The most recent alpine skier who received a helicopter ride to the hospital is from Slovakia Petra Vlhovawho was injured in his home race in Jasna.
Vlhova, 28, had only had 15 seconds to land in the first round of the giant slalom when she lost her balance on the icy slope and slid into the safety net. He got stuck in the net on his second hook and it took a while to get him out of it.
Vlhova was taken down the slope on a stick and transported by helicopter to the hospital. He appeared to have sprained his right knee. According to the International Ski Federation, the skier’s condition is stable and is now undergoing further investigations. Also leading the giant slalom cup Federica Brignone crashed before Vlhova, but was not injured.
Vlhova opened this season with a win in Levi’s slalom and has since won two other slalom races. He is second overall in the World Cup. Vlhova is also the reigning Olympic champion in slalom.
This season, especially in speed sports, there have been bad crashes. His calf was operated on immediately, but he will have to wear a cast on his leg for six weeks. Kilde was also hit in the shoulder, and the torn tendons were operated on on Thursday.
Kilde said that he doesn’t remember much of what happened. He remembers seeing the security fence, he remembers the pain in his shoulder, but most of the memories are just darkness.
– I hit the net at a 90 degree angle. I remember seeing the net and hitting it. Then everything went dark for a moment. I woke up and felt really bad pain in my shoulder and then passed out again. When I awoke again, I looked at my leg and saw a wound and blood, he told CNN.
Kilde’s girlfriend Mikaela Shiffrin was next to him when Kilde woke up from the operation. Shiffrin raced just days after Kilde’s accident. Shiffrin, considered the best alpine skier of all time, showed his cool nerves as he won the evening slalom in Flachau. Only after the race did she let her emotions out and burst into tears.
