Will Harry Potter be revived with a series or a movie? This question has plagued the rumor mill for years. Now there are concrete indications of how the wizarding world is to be resurrected after the disappointing Fantastic Beasts series. The author JK Rowling, who is controversial because of transphobic statements, is said to be involved.

Harry Potter series to remake the 7 books – with JK Rowling

The American streaming service HBO Max wants to remake the seven Harry Potter books as a series and is on the verge of a settlement with series creator JK Rowling. That’s according to multiple reports (via Bloomberg). The following is known about this:

  • Each season of the series is set to adapt one of the seven Harry Potter booksstarting with Part 1, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, through to Part 7, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
  • JK Rowling is set to produce the series, but not serving as a showrunner or central creative force behind the scenes. This would differentiate her role in the series from that in the Fantastic Beasts series, where she was responsible for the scripts.

    • So the series would be a rebootfeaturing a new cast of wizard apprentices Harry, Hermione and Ron, plus the staff from Hogwarts, Voldemort and more – 20 years after the launch of the first of eight motion pictures, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

    JK Rowling is still being held

    For Studio Warner and its streaming service HBO Max, Harry Potter is one of the most important franchises alongside The Lord of the Rings and the DC Superheroes. A reboot comes as little surprise after the poor performance of the animal films. Nevertheless, the studio will probably face harsh criticism in the coming months. Without JK Rowling, the series is not realizable, but Rowling has repeated discriminatory statements against trans people for years. The original actors Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson have distanced themselves from the author because of this. Radcliffe stated in November:

    Since the end of the Harry Potter film series, I’ve met so many young queer and trans people who identified with Potter.
