24-year-old Frenchwoman Harmony Tan defeated the legendary Williams in a dramatic super tiebreak in the third, decisive set.
– I’m so full of emotions right now. She’s a superstar. When I was a child, I watched her on TV so many times. In my first Wimbledon – wow! Wow just, says Tan.
Williams, however, did not seem too depressed and says that she is now excited to compete in the US Open later this year.
– It was in the US Open that I won my first grand slam, it is super special. I am clearly motivated to get better and play at home.
Wimbledon was the American superstar’s comeback a year after she was forced to withdraw in the first round of the same tournament due to an injury.
The seven-time champion is chasing his 24th grand slam title in his career.
But her long absence has meant that she took the elevator far down the world rankings and needed a wildcard to even play Wimbledon.
