Serbian Prime Minister Miloš Vučević has resigned. Vučević’s SNS party informs on their website.

Vučević led his party to victory in the parliamentary elections in 2023 and has served as Prime Minister since May 2024.

The resignation of Vučević is the result of a protest movement that has taken over Serbian. The protests started when the canopy of Novi Sadi’s train station collapsed in November last year. 15 people died in the accident.

Since the accident, the Serbians have constantly organized big protests. In them, among other things, students and workers blame Vučević and President Aleksandar Vučićin administration corruption.

According to the Prime Minister, the purpose of his divorce is to alleviate tensions between administration and protesters.

– I believe that by doing so, we show the responsibility of politicians. At least this seems to accept politicians in order to prevent the situation from spreading to the streets, the dispute of citizens and the divide, the tensions of society, Vučić told journalists at a news conference.

However, Vučić hinted that protests may involve “foreign and foreign interests”. Serbia is one of Russia’s closest partners in Europe.
