The action thriller Sicario was celebrated by many fans and critics. With the sequel Sicario 2, director Stefano Sollima follows in Denis Villeneuve’s footsteps and goes one better: the plot is even more brutal and seemingly does not have a moral compass. You can see the result tonight on TV see.
Sicario 2 on TV: Dark thriller without a moral guide
In Sicario 2, the war against drug smuggling continues on the Mexican-American border. US agents Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) and Alejandro (Benicio del Toro) also have to cross moral boundaries in their dangerous job. But one order goes too far for Alejandro. He should make a young witness disappear.
The sequel takes place in an ethical no man’s landin which the end justifies the means principle reigns. That’s also the reason why Emily Blunt is no longer in the second part. “[…] her role was a kind of moral guide for the audience. In Soldado we don’t have that,” explains director Stefano Sollima.
Sicario franchise is still waiting for third sequel
As far as the reviews are concerned, the sequel cannot keep up with the first part, with scores dropping both on Rotten Tomatoes and in our community. Nevertheless, Sicario 2 has an above-average rating of 6.9 (Rotten Tomatoes: 62 percent). The platform says:
Although Sicario 2 is less subversive than its predecessor, it is one stylish, dynamic thriller – even if his amoral machismo makes for a dark experience.
Thanks to the good reviews and the success at the box office, it was released two years ago Working hard on the script for Sciario 3but the project seems stuck. Whether and when fans can hope for a sequel and which cast members will be back remains to be seen.
