Man woman charged in separate theft incidents in Chatham

Two Chatham men have been charged in two separate incidents involving a weapon that happened in Chatham on Saturday.

In the morning, Chatham-Kent police responded to a disturbance between two men, known to each other.

Investigation revealed a 37-year-old Chatham man was stabbed with a knife during an altercation, police said. The victim was treated at hospital and released.

In the evening, police arrested a 23-year-old man and charged him with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He was released with a June 8 court date, police said.

In the evening, police were called to a disturbance between two men in a parking lot.

Police said it was learned through investigation, a 29-year-old man was assaulted with a baseball bat. He was taken to hospital and treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

A 29-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, police said.

A 32-year-old Chatham man has been arrested after Chatham-Kent police responded to a theft from vehicle complaint in Chatham Saturday night.

Police said it was learned through investigation that an unknown man entered a vehicle in a parking lot in Chatham and stole various items.

Video surveillance helped police identify the suspect, who was located within the hour.

The accused was arrested for theft as well as on outstanding warrant for failing to comply with his release conditions. He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing, police said.

A 29-year-old Blenheim man was arrested for impaired driving after Chatham-Kent police responded to a collision in Communication Road, just before 2 am Sunday.

Through investigation, the officer believed the man was driving while under the influence of alcohol, police said. The accused was arrested and transported to the Chatham-Kent OPP detachment for breath tests, which resulted in him being charged with having a blood-alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.

He was released with a May 18 court date, police said.

A 51-year-old Chatham man has been arrested in connection to an attempted theft of a catalytic converter.

Just after 4 am Sunday, Chatham-Kent responded to a report of a suspicious man on Sass Road in Chatham.

The man fled on foot when police arrived, but was taken into custody a short distance away.

Investigation revealed the accused allegedly damaged a vehicle while trying to steal the catalytic converter.

The man was charged with mischief under $5,000 and released with a June 8 court date.
