A 22-year-old man in Örebro is sentenced to 16 years in prison for murdering his girlfriend, local media reports.

At the end of December last year, a 19-year-old woman was found dead in an apartment in central Örebro. The 22-year-old man, who had a relationship with the woman, was later arrested on suspicion of strangling her to death.

It was initially unclear how the woman died, but after a forensic examination, suspicions arose that she had been killed.

Among the evidence are text message conversations in which the 22-year-old was threatening. On the same day that the woman was found, the man also googled “how long do you stay in custody for murder”.

In addition to the prison sentence, the man must pay SEK 660,000 in damages.
