Salminen also stated that he hasn’t spent any energy thinking about it on the race trip.

Salminen will compete in the triple jump qualification on Wednesday.

Opened up about his mental problems

Salminen talked openly about his mental problems earlier this summer. According to his own words, he had pretended that everything was fine, although in reality he wanted to be anywhere other than the competition venue.

In June, at Paavo Nurmi’s games, Salminen’s performance was messed up. His result of 13.22 was far from his record of 14.63.

Salminen retired for a competition break, after which the level of results has been significantly better. In his return competition in Lappeenranta, he jumped with a result of 14.03.

In Budapest, Salminen said that his mind is calm and peaceful now.

– Now it’s somehow calm and I don’t think much about what other people think about my jumps. I jump for myself, Salminen stated.

The qualifying limit for the women’s triple jump is 14.30. Among the Finns, the European Championship silver medalist also participates in the qualification Kristiina Mäkelä.
