Deputy Birame Souleye Diop was indicted on Tuesday July 11 by the Senegalese courts for “offending the head of state” and “acts likely to compromise public peace”. The president of the group Yewwi Askan Wi had been placed in police custody after remarks targeting the Senegalese and Ivorian presidents, the day after the announcement of Macky Sall’s non-candidacy for a third term. The opposition MP received the support of his parliamentary colleagues on Wednesday.
