In Senegal, Tabaski, a Muslim festival of sheep sacrifice, will be celebrated on June 29, but it is being prepared in a tense social and political climate after the violent demonstrations that followed the conviction of political opponent Ousmane Sonko. These demonstrations killed sixteen people according to the authorities, twenty-three according to Amnesty International. From then on, breeders are reluctant to bring their sheep to the Senegalese capital, for fear that new clashes will break out.
