From January 1, an almost general increase is expected in the prices of stamps, registered letters and Colissimo.
Many changes are expected at the start of the year, with increases in certain prices such as the price of cigarettes or gas. But another increase should impact the French, from January 1, 2024: sending a letter or a parcel will in fact cost more. In fact, the Post Office announced on July 27 in a press release “tariff adjustments” on certain products with the aim of “ensure the sustainability of the universal postal service” who faces financial difficulties. Several services, used on a daily basis by hundreds of thousands of French people every day, are affected: stamps, registered letters, “services plus” letters and Colissimo from individuals.
If you’re expecting to pay just a couple of cents extra, you’re in for a surprise. Overall, the anticipated increases are far from minimal. Stamp prices will increase by 8.3% on average, as for the green stamp, the increase has been set at 11.20%. Prices for registered letters will reach nearly 11%, and Colissimo prices for individuals 5.6% on average. On the other hand, “services plus” letters, for sending important documents with a follow-up notification, will undergo a very small increase, estimated at 4 cents. Concretely, next year, if you go to a post office, don’t be surprised if you pay:
- For a green letter (up to 20g): 1.29 euros compared to 1.16 euros previously.
- For a “services plus” letter (up to 20 g): 2.99 euros instead of 2.95 euros.
- For a registered letter (up to 20g): 5.36 euros compared to 4.83 euros.
- For an international registered letter (up to 20g): 6.91 euros instead of 6.60 euros.
- For a Colissimo delivered to your home (up to 250 g): 4.99 euros compared to 4.95 euros previously.
- For a Colissimo delivered to a collection point (up to 250 g): 4.29 euros instead of 4.25 euros.
Logically, the greater the weight, the higher the price. If you have a 5 kg parcel to send, you will have to pay 15.60 euros in the future, instead of 14.65 euros. Among all these increases, only a few services should not see their prices increase, notably mail tracking and the red e-letter for letters to be sent urgently.
