Sembene, the dean

Sembene the dean

Self-taught, Sembene Ousmane had been a builder, skirmisher, docker, before embarking on a literary and cinematographic adventure, starting with “Borom Sarret” (1963), the first film ever shot by an African on the continent. This replay is scheduled as we celebrate the centenary of the birth of Sembène Ousmane, born on January 1, 1923 in Ziguinchor, Senegal.
