“Seko has failed its members on all counts”

An agreement has been concluded between the union and Almega Tågföretagen. But the members are disappointed.

Seko has let its members down on all counts, says train driver Nils Westberg Ahlmark.

Dissatisfied and disappointed. This is how train driver Nils Westberg Ahlmark describes the reactions from other Seko members that he has heard. The agreement concluded between the union and Almega Tågföretagen means, among other things, that the issue of solo work on the commuter trains is deferred to the future.

– In principle, Seko has not got through any demands at all. There is a very high risk of both betrayal debate and distrust of the union leadership, he says.

Thinking of leaving

He believes that the union will now lose members.

– I have spoken to colleagues who have called the union leadership today and requested a withdrawal form. I think we will see more members leaving the union, absolutely.

And he himself will “think strongly” about leaving, he says.

The issue of solo work on the commuter trains has been a big issue for train drivers, leading several of them to go on wildcat strike in April. In the agreement that has now been signed, it was decided to appoint a working group to investigate the issue. A bad solution, thinks Nils Westberg Ahlmark

– They should have gone on strike to defend our demands, and put pressure on Almega to get through as good an agreement as possible.

Big consequences

The consequences for Seko will be large and long-lasting, he believes, in the form of loss of members and distrust towards the union.

– I think we will see tremendous pressure on the union leadership from the members. We have not seen the last word from the members, there is a high risk of some kind of conflict going forward.
