The seismic activity that started recently in Iceland’s Reykjanes Peninsula continues. While more than 500 earthquakes have occurred in the Reykjanes Peninsula since midnight, many roads have been cracked. As hundreds of people left the area, smoke was seen rising from some of the cracks that formed.
Experts emphasized that the seismic activity has decreased compared to yesterday, but the 15-kilometer-long magma river passing under the peninsula is still active and threatens the town of Grindavik, which is currently evacuated.
Fagradalsfjall Volcano is expected to erupt soon in Iceland, where a state of emergency was declared last Saturday. Fagradalsfjall Volcano restarted its volcanic activities after 800 years with the eruption in 2021.
