Crazy Taxi is celebrating its return – probably as a AAA game and as an MMO. Fans have high hopes for an old, popular franchise.
In December of last year, Sega talked about reviving some old game franchises and working on development. One of these titles is “Crazy Taxi,” which has raised the hopes of gaming veterans in particular. In a video on YouTube, they now talk about new details that make you want more.

What is Crazy Taxi? The name of the Crazy Taxi game series has always been the program. Essentially, the aim is to get your customers from one place to their destination as quickly as possible as a taxi driver. However, you get more points if you perform crazy stunts and particularly dangerous maneuvers during the journey.
Our younger readers in particular may not have heard of Crazy Taxi yet. The last main game in the series, Crazy Taxi 3: High Roller, was released in 2002 – 22 years ago now. Since then, there have been several mobile spin-offs and a few games in the same franchise, but in these you don’t have direct control of the taxi.
What kind of game will it be? According to a YouTube video from Sega, the new Crazy Taxi will do a lot of things differently than its predecessors and will therefore be more in keeping with the current zeitgeist. It is a game of “large scope” with an open world – a massively multiplayer driving game.
This means that several drivers can play at the same time. We are currently testing the limits of how many drivers can realistically do this. The original style of Crazy Taxi will be retained, but there will be many new mechanics.
It seems obvious that this will also bring some new game modes. An earlier teaser showed that you can also drive police cars – which will then probably try to stop the crazy taxi drivers (or put them in prison with crazy stunts).
When is the release? There is no release date for the new “Crazy Taxi” game yet. Since a number of roles in the development team are currently being filled, it will probably take quite a while. At least fans of the franchise have hope that one of the most absurd and funniest game concepts will be revived – even if the release is not due for a few years.
