On March 24, a 26-year-old taxi driver went to meet a teenage girl next to a secluded forest area in Enköping. Then he disappeared.
A week later, the man was found hanging from a tree a few hundred meters from the place where he parked. The taximeter was still running.
Now five teenagers, a girl and four brothers aged 15-19 years, are charged with probable cause on suspicion of murder.
One motive being investigated is revenge.
Had reported the man
The girl, who had contact with the taxi driver via Snapchat, had reported the man in February for a rape that she said happened last summer, when she was 14 years old. That case had led nowhere at the end of March when the 26-year-old man was murdered.
The details of the high-profile case – what happened in the days before and after the murder – can be seen in the TV4 Nyheternas mini-documentary “Hanged – The Teenagers and the Taxi Murder” which can be seen on TV4 Play.
The girl had a relationship with the youngest of the accused boys, and the boys are brothers.
Among the technical evidence are text messages that the girl sent to friends, which the prosecutor believes are about the murder. Among other things, she writes that her rapist is dead. Several other pieces of technical evidence link the teenagers to the murder scene and to the rope the man was hanged from. But exactly what happened in the natural area in Enköping on March 24 is still unclear.
The police did reconstruction
The police made a reconstruction video of how the hanging might have happened to see how many people would be required to hoist the man up. TV4 Nyheterna has seen that video and is publishing certain parts of it the documentary.
All five defendants deny wrongdoing.
According to the girl’s defender, there is a reason why she wanted to meet the 26-year-old that has nothing to do with murder plans. That reason will be presented by the defense later in the trial. The same is said by one of the boys’ defense attorneys – there are reasons why they were in the natural area that have nothing to do with murder.
The trial takes place during October and November and is held behind closed doors.
