See the police cars crash in the middle of Linköping – the prosecutor: “I choose to prosecute”

It was the fourth of June last year that the incident took place at the intersection between Drottninggatan and Sankt Larsgatan in central Linköping. After the crash between the two police cars, one of the cars went into a stationary bus.

All five people, including four police officers and a bus driver, who were involved in the accident had to be taken to the University Hospital for supervision.

Prosecutor: “Not acceptable”

Per Nichols is the prosecutor at the Special Prosecutor’s Office, which handles crimes where, among other things, police officers are suspected.

– I choose to prosecute because I have judged that the way one of the police vehicles was imposed on was not acceptable. It was simply too much risk -taking, says Per Nichols.

The policeman who was driving the car that was traveling on Sankt Larsgatan is charged with carelessness in traffic – but denies crime.

Do you take any consideration that the police car collided with another police car?

– As in all criminal cases, all factors must be considered, for example how quickly the other vehicle was traveling. This is something I will present to the court and then the defendant’s defender may present what he means has happened and causal relationship, says Per Nichols.
