It was on December 22 that witnesses alerted the police after seeing how wobbly the truck was driven on Volgsjövägen. A private person followed the lorry and filmed the journey, at the same time flashing high beams to get the vehicle to stop.
“Serious drunk driving offense”
Oncoming cars that were close to colliding with the truck also flashed their headlights.
– It is a serious drunk driving offence, there is no doubt about that. He has driven a large, heavy and long vehicle in a dangerous manner, where he was also met by other cars, says prosecutor Peter Jonsson.
Empty beer cans in the cabin
Finally, the driver turned into a parking pocket, where he was held by private persons until the police arrived.
The cabin was full of empty beer cans and in the space behind there were trays with the same kind of beer.
According to a witness, the driver was sitting with a beer can in his hand. The police perceived him as lethargic, with red-shot eyes and that he smelled of alcohol. He was judged to be very intoxicated and not audible. The blood test showed that the man had 2.59 per thousand of alcohol in his blood.
Denies crime
The truck driver is suspected of aggravated drunken driving. He denies all the charges and says it was another person who was driving, who ran from the truck when he parked.
Now the prosecutor must prove that this was not the case.
– There are witnesses who say that no one else drove the vehicle, says Peter Jonsson.
“The driving posed a significant danger to traffic safety. It is only temporary circumstances that mean that an accident has not occurred,” writes the prosecutor in the indictment.
