Two hectares of chanterelles – in a single mushroom. It was the result of Åse and Amanda’s mushroom hunt in Bullarebygden in Bohuslän. The “monster vamp” measured 20 centimeters above the hat.
– I thought there were several growing in a cluster, but when I grabbed it and realized that it was only one stem, I was shocked, says Amanda Andersson in After five.
On Wednesday, it was total mushroom luck when Åse Röman and Amanda Andersson were out picking mushrooms in the Bullarebygden in Bohuslän. After a while of searching, up on a dry and sunny fir patch, there was the largest chanterelle they had seen – perhaps the largest found in Sweden, something that Bohusläningen was the first to report on.
– We have never found anything that comes close to this, says Amanda Andersson.
“Will be a real stew”
It is unclear if it is Sweden’s largest, as no record list is kept. But close to Åsa and Amanda did their research online, they haven’t found anyone bigger.
Their nugget measured 205 grams and 20 centimeters above the hat.
It should become a stew that they think is enough for ten toasts.
– It will be a real stew with toast, quite simply, says Åse Röman.
“Amazingly good”
Does it taste as good as small chanterelles then?
According to Åse and Amanda, it does that when they cooked the stem with a little Västerbotten cheese.
– I think it was delicious, says Amanda Andersson.
– Fantastically good, says Åse Röman.
