This year’s Christmas tree flight over Norrbotten was historic. Up in the sky you could not only glimpse Swedish battle planes but also Finnish ones.
– It’s great training for us to fly in large formations, says Karl, head of the 212th Fighter Aviation Division.
A symbolic event
Sweden and Finland have a tradition of practicing together in what is called “cross-border training”. But this year they chose to combine practice with a display, something that Karl believes is symbolic.
– This year is the first year that both our countries are members of NATO. It gives this year’s flight an extra symbolic value, he says.
