Latvians gathered on Monday to celebrate the bronze medal in the World Hockey Championship.
Latvia’s historic ice hockey World Cup bronze was celebrated in a big way on Monday. The Latvian parliament declared Monday a national holiday.
With the help of the day off, the Parliament wanted to also offer people living in rural areas the opportunity to participate in the team’s medal ceremony in the country’s capital, Riga. There were estimated to be more than 30,000 people there. when the team arrived to celebrate the medal.
Latvian fans raised the mood to the ceiling in Tampere as well, when thousands of them arrived to watch the medal matches.
Ice hockey is a big sport in Latvia and the first World Cup medal has been a really big deal in the country.
