Security is strengthened in Swedish ports

When Ekot called around to Sweden’s nine largest ports in terms of the amount of goods, traffic and passengers, seven chose to answer Ekot’s questions and of these, six ports replied that security has been strengthened due to the security police’s decision regarding a high terror threat level.

– I can’t go into detail, but there are changes in how we work with security. Increased surveillance, I can say, says Thomas Fransson, security manager at the Port of Gothenburg, which is the largest port in the Nordics, to Ekot.

According to the Swedish Maritime Administration, over 90 percent of Sweden’s imports and exports originate from the country’s ports and constitute an important part of Sweden’s and partly also neighboring countries’ supply.

In the Port of Gothenburg, the area that counts as a protected object has been extended out into the water. This places increased demands on the Coast Guard, which has also tightened its surveillance. See more in the clip.
