The UN Security Council is to gather for a hastily convened crisis meeting due to the attack on Rafah in southern Gaza on Sunday evening, diplomatic sources told the AFP news agency.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, at Algeria’s request.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemns on X Israel’s air raid on a tent camp which he writes “killed countless innocent civilians who were only seeking protection from this deadly conflict”.

“There are no safe places left in Gaza. This horror must end,” he continues.
