Security at Eurovision – bomb dogs search hotels

The security around Eurovision in Malmö is now intensifying, the closer the competition gets. Hotel guests must have received a note that the rooms are to be searched by bomb dogs during the day, according to information to TV4 Nyheterna.

The police confirm to TV4 Nyheterna that the event area in and around Malmö Arena will be searched with bomb dogs during the day, as part of the overall security work.

– It is not about the fact that there has been a threat or the like, but we will do this continuously throughout the entire period that the event is in progress, starting today, says Jimmy Modin, press spokesperson in the police region South.

In addition, all hotel guests’ bags at Malmö Arena Hotell and Malmö Live must be scanned in similar scanning systems found in airport security checkpoints, but this is not something the police want to comment on:

– How our work regarding security before Eurovision looks like in detail is not something we comment on, says Jimmy Modin.

TV4 Nyheterna has previously reported on the rigorous security work around Eurovision in Malmö. Among other things, the police will use reinforcement weapons, which will correspond to k-piste, there will be a bag ban at the events and they will also use alarm arcs at several entrances.
