Last Thursday, Rögle beat Timrå on home ice with 6-1 – four of the goals came in the second period.
— We continue to build on the energy we came out with in the last match. In any case, it feels like we are hard to face when we are so connected, says Rögleforward Adam Edström to C More.
The association celebrated 90 years
Rögle were really switched on at home against third in the table Frölunda when the Ängelholm club celebrated 90 years in front of 5,867 spectators. During the first ten minutes of the match, the home team dominated.
After 8.28, Adam Tambellini entered the offensive zone with a breakneck pace and found a gap between the near post and away goalkeeper Lars Johansson’s club side to make it 1–0.
Not even two minutes later, 2-0 also fell when Adam Edström poked a rebound in front of Johansson.
In recent seasons, Rögle has been a top team in the SHL, but has had a tough autumn. Last spring, the team won the Champions Hockey League, but this season Rögle went to the quarter-finals and before the big victory against Timrå, the Skåne had three straight losses in the SHL.
“We know we are in a situation where we need to win a few games and now we are in a flow, so we just have to build on that,” says Edström.
Frölunda coach Roger Rönnberg wanted to see a faster game and a more physical performance on the ice before the second period.
“We need to win many, many more close matches,” says Rönnberg to C More.
Even if Frölunda – without team captain Joel Lundqvist (sick) – pulled up in the middle act, this was Rögle’s night.
After 5.31 minutes of the second period, Daniel Zaar made it 3-0 on a direct shot when Marco Kasper served his teammate in numerical superiority.
With just 35 seconds left to play in the period, Frölunda lost just such an important melee in front of goal. Again it was Adam Edström who was strong when he poked in a rebound.
Reduced twice over
Frölunda defender Petteri Lindbohm reduced the score to 1-4 barely seven minutes into the third period, but it was then until there were 3.21 remaining in the game before away goal number two came through Mats Rosseli Olsen.
In the final stage, Frölunda took out goalkeeper Johansson, but playing six against five outfield players did not pay off and Rögle won 4–2.
Rögle is now on Christmas leave and faces Färjestad away on Boxing Day. For Frölunda, Brynäs awaits at home in Scandinavium on Tuesday.
