There will be a second round on May 8 in the presidential election in North Macedonia as none of the candidates received more than 50 percent in Wednesday’s election.

The opposition’s candidate, right-wing politician Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, received upwards of 40 percent of the vote compared to the incumbent president, Social Democrat Stevo Pendarovski’s approximately 20 percent.

The country received the go-ahead from the EU to negotiate membership in 2022, but in practice has not started. Bulgaria blocks.
