It is clear since none of a total of six presidential candidates received more than 50 percent of the votes in Sunday’s first round of elections. When 98 percent of the votes were counted, Petro leads by just over 40 percent, against 28 percent for runner-up Gutiérrez.
Petro lost the last presidential election in 2018 against the now resigning conservative Iván Duque.
