Some progress is being made to reach a resolution for a second-degree murder charge against a Tilbury man, a Chatham court heard Friday.
Ken Baylis, 32, made a brief appearance via video Friday morning. He was charged in April after Daniel Marchand, 45, was found dead in a Tilbury apartment.
Defense lawyer Greg McGivern told the court discussions are continuing with Chatham-Kent Crown Attorney Rob MacDonald.
His request was granted to add the matter to Aug. 29, following more resolution discussions with the Crown next week.
A publication ban is in place on evidence heard during the pre-trial phase.
Police previously reported Marchand, who hadn’t been seen since April 15, was reported missing April 19.
Baylis was arrested and charged after Marchand was found dead in a Dufferin Avenue apartment complex April 26.
An autopsy, completed April 27, found the preliminary cause of death was homicide, police have said.
