In DRClast week, the first hearing of this trial had enabled the identification of all the accused as well as the presentation of the charges against them. They are 51since the leader of the commando and a man called “Aboubakar” present on the list of summonses to appear were declared dead by the court, which automatically caused the end of the charges against them.
This Friday, the merits of the case should be addressed and the investigation of the case should begin, explains a member of the defense. This is long-term work since the Kinshasa/Gombe military court will question each defendant on what he is accused of. “ We left for several weeks of hearing », Adds a lawyer.
But before the interrogations begin, the court will also have to examine the various requests for release. There will also perhaps be a question of extradition requests since several of the accused are foreigners. There are in fact among the defendants three American nationals, a Belgian, a Canadian and a Briton.
