Germany has received its first case of the new variant of the disease mpox, formerly called monkeypox. It is the second case in Europe.
According to the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin, the patient has been infected abroad, but the institute does not provide more detailed information than that, AFP reports.
The variant is called mpox clade 1b and is spread in a number of Central African countries. The first case outside the African continent was reported in Sweden in August. Since then, one case each has been detected in Thailand, India and now Germany.
The World Health Organization WHO decided in August that mpox clade 1 should be classified as an international threat to human health. This means that international efforts are coordinated and that each country monitors the situation.

There has been a traffic accident in Borås on Tranderedsgatan.
The police were alerted to the accident by an SOS alarm at 15:37.
– Two cars have been involved in a collision. Both drivers involved in the accident must have complained of pain, says Adam Isaksson, police spokesperson.
The extent of the damage is still unclear.

The Riksdagkansliet has awarded ten foreign citizens with Swedish orders of knighthood.
– The awards are an expression of our great gratitude for the efforts of these people in connection with Sweden’s membership in NATO. I would also like to give special thanks to the former President of Finland, Sauli Niinistö, who has already received the Order of Seraphim. Sweden’s membership makes NATO stronger and Sweden safer, says Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.
The list includes Finland’s former Prime Minister Sanna Marin, Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto, NATO’s former Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, among others.
The herring and sturgeon quota increases by 108 percent following an EU decision.
Something that worries Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.
– We regret it. We did everything we could to go the other way. We didn’t get a majority for it. We have pushed our line, now it was less than it would have been if Sweden had not acted. But still a bad result, he tells journalists in the Riksdag.
Ulf Kristersson shares the concerns that have been raised by several Swedish EU parliamentarians:
– We are also very concerned. There is a very obvious risk of overfishing and it is a classic problem when many countries protect their own without looking out for the common good.

A 45-year-old person who was previously suspected of protecting a criminal in connection with the murder of 14-year-old Emilia in Landskrona has been removed from the investigation. This is reported by Helsingborgs Dagblad.
– There is not enough evidence, says senior prosecutor Pernilla Nilsson to the newspaper.
Emilia was found dead in an industrial area in Landskrona on the night of Tuesday 23 July.
A 15-year-old is in custody on probable cause on suspicion of murder. A 13-year-old girl is also suspected of the murder. She has been taken into the care of social authorities.
In addition, five young people, four under the age of 15, are suspected of aiding and abetting serious assault.
A man in Läsarbo has been injured in connection with forestry work.
According to the police, he was run over by a machine and suffered head injuries.
The man must be awake and talkative.
A case of mpox clade 2 has been confirmed in a person in Oslo, reports VG.
It is the same variant that had its outbreak outside Africa in 2022. Over a hundred cases of the variant have since been reported in Norway.
“It must not be confused with mpox clade 1, which started with an outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2023,” Oslo Municipality writes in a press release.
The case of infection is routinely handled by the municipality through infection tracking and follow-up of the infected person.
A first case of mpox clade 1 has been confirmed in Germany on the same day, reports Reuters.
The biggest difference between the variants is how they infect. Clade 2 is mainly spread through sexual contacts, especially between men. Clade 1 is spread to a greater extent through close physical contacts in the home and via shared objects.
Region Uppsala has called a press conference due to a case where 33 women had their uterus removed.
It is during a follow-up review that the Academic Hospital found 33 cases in 2023 and 2024 where women had their uteruses removed on incorrect grounds.

Earlier this morning, a traffic accident occurred on the E18 in Grums.
Two motorists drove into each other in a side collision, something that had a major impact on traffic during the morning and forenoon.
Both drivers had to be taken to hospital by ambulance.
– One of them was reported to have an injury to the leg. The other was bleeding from the face. Later we were able to establish that one of the drivers had more serious injuries, Sophia Jiglind, press spokesperson at the police.
The seriously injured is a man in his 70s.
The police are now interested in talking to two women who were at the scene of the accident in a car.
– They are key witnesses to the traffic accident. We want their observations about how the accident happened in order to possibly prove a crime.
There is currently no criminal classification.
A passenger car has driven into the center barrier and then collided with a truck on the E6 at the height of Ängelholm.
– We are on our way to the scene now, says police spokesperson Sara Andersson.
It is currently unclear if anyone has been injured in the accident.
Magnus Löf, who managed to ward off a bear attack in Edsbyn by shooting the bear dead, is no longer suspected of serious hunting offences.
According to Jennie Nordin, senior prosecutor, Magnus acted in an emergency, reports SVT Gävleborg.
Magnus himself reported the incident to the police and said he supports the legal process and the rule of law.
– It feels good even if it was expected, he told SVT after the announcement.
It was during an elk hunt last Saturday that Magnus and his 11-year-old son Teodor were suddenly attacked by a bear that was awakened from its den.
During Tuesday morning, several trucks collided on the E6 near Helsingborg, the Swedish Transport Administration writes on its website.
The accident is said to have a very large impact on traffic and the road is now closed. There is currently no forecast for when the road will be able to reopen.
– There are three trucks involved and one of the truck drivers has been taken to hospital, says police spokesperson Patric Fors.
He states that a northbound lane will be opened shortly.
The oil and gas company Equinor’s rescue service was alerted in the early morning about the development of smoke from the Sleipner B platform, the company writes in a press release.
It is not a fire. The smoke must come from a switch room.
Production has therefore been shut down.
The platform is unmanned and prone in the North Sea, about 250 kilometers outside Stavanger in Norway.

But according to the court, the flagging, which is usually associated with deaths, is a mistake.
– It is being remedied, says the court’s information manager Margareta Thorgren.
In an email to Aftonbladet, the court later writes that the reason for the miss was that they had a problem with one of the ropes, but that the flag is now at its peak.
