Second AP Fund invests in Tesla

The state second AP Fund, which is one of several funds that manages the Swedes’ income pension, turns out to have bought shares in Tesla for 50 million, which Carspekt Be the first to report.

The investment must have been made during the fourth quarter of 2024, and now the American electric car manufacturer is raging on the stock exchange and other, foreign pension funds selling their shares.

According to the Pensioners’ National Organization Pro, it is no wonder that shares that the AP funds invest yesterday up and down, that some lose value and that others are rising. However, a solid analysis is required behind the investment decisions, says Joel Stade, financial expert at PRO.

-Has the Second AP Fund done his homework here? Elon Musk is perhaps the world’s most controversial CEO and it is quite a given that it entails a great risk. Not least for the company’s value and then the AP Fund must have thought through this properly, he tells TV4 News.

“It gets absurd”

In addition, the Swedish Teslastryken has been going on for almost 500 days. IF Metall is fighting for a collective agreement, but Tesla refuses to sign.

– This is a pension issue too. In order to receive a decent pension, one must have a collective agreement. Employers who refuse to sign are a threat to the pension savers, says Joel Stade.

He believes that if the AP Fund is to invest the Swedes’ pension money in strike-affected Tesla, they must have a plan for how to get the company to sign an agreement.

– State pension funds should not undermine the Swedish model and the collective agreement, it will be absurd, says Stade.

The AP Fund: “Understand the problem”

Åsa Mossberg, Press Manager at the Second AP Fund, says that she understands the problem of Tesla Investment and that they are constantly taking part in the news development that is happening.

She believes that 50 million constitutes about one per thousand of the AP Fund’s total investment funds, and that they are underweight. Mossberg also says that the fund is constantly evaluating the companies in which it is invested based on various factors.

– We have seen weaknesses in Tesla’s corporate governance, which means that we are underweight in the company. It is possible that we will re -evaluate in the future, but at present we have not excluded Tesla from our investment universities, she tells TV4 News.

When it comes to the Teslast strike, the press manager believes that the AP Funds Ethics Council has an ongoing dialogue with Tesla on various issues.

– We understand that there is criticism of the company and we talked to the company about it. But as long as we own shares, we also have a place at the table and can try to influence, says Åsa Mossberg.

Facts: Teslastryken

IF Metall started the strike against Tesla’s service facilities in Sweden on October 27, 2023.

The trade union requirements are collective agreements for its members. Tesla says no.

In addition to IF Metall’s primary conflict, several other LO unions have laid sympathist strikes, which means, among other things, that transport and its sister organizations in neighboring countries have stopped all unloading of Tesla cars in ports.

Waste collection is blocked, service of charging stations and workshop equipment as well as the postal corridor of registration plates from the Swedish Transport Agency to name some of the combat measures.
