Sebastian Wilhelmsson floored the jury in Swedens master chef

Sebastian Wilhelmsson, 37, from Skövde, was in the second episode of Sweden’s master chef 2024. During his audition in Täby, he took the jury by storm and went home with three yeses and an apron.

In an interview with News24 tells Sebastian Wilhelmsson about what made him apply to the program and why he chose to cook the dish he did.

– I’ve looked at that program basically every year and wanted to apply, I think, but didn’t really dare. I’ve been a little afraid of not measuring up and above all afraid of the stress and pressure, says Sebastian Wilhelmsson and continues:

– I’m not really much of a competitive person, and it looks so incredibly stressful, and then I didn’t think that I really wanted to expose myself to that.

That’s why Sebastian Wilhelmsson applied to be Sweden’s master chef in 2024

But then the day came when Sebastian Wilhelmsson decided to actually apply for the program and test what he was up to.

– But then it felt like it was time. It fluttered past a notice on social media one day and then I thought “it’s probably damn time now”.

At the audition, Sebastian Wilhelmsson offered deer saddle with mashed potatoes, pepper sauce, fried black radish and black cabbage and a chutney with lingonberries, chili and cinnamon.

– The basis of that right is a family right, you could say. It’s a dish that we ate on New Year’s Eve almost all of my growing up. We hung out with the same family for many, many years and then we had that right standing. So it’s a dish I like and it suited me very well, I think, he tells Nyheter24.

When the jury tasted Sebastian’s dish in the program, he received both rice and praise.

– For me, white pepper is a very distinct flavor that doesn’t really bloom, but just becomes pepper. Then you miss the Madeira tone a little in this thing. But otherwise it stops there, because this is a very, very well-prepared dish, said Tommy Myllymäki in the program and continued:

– Gorgeous roasted venison, I think it’s absolutely perfect, maybe a little more roasting surface, that’s the only thing. The mashed potatoes are great and the chutney is great with this fried cabbage.

Also Tom Sjöstedt liked the whole of the dish and also gave a “clear yes” to Sebastian.

– It’s a yes from me too, said Mischa Billing.

This is how Sebastian Wilhelmsson charges for the final qualifier in Gävle

Sebastian is very satisfied with his performance in the audition and the feedback he received from the jury.

– Moving on from the audition was absolutely fantastic, a confirmation that my cooking still maintains a good level, the feeling was absolutely incredible, he tells Nyheter24.

Now the final qualification in Gävle is at the door. Something that Sebastian Wilhelmsson was extremely nervous about.

– Before that, I was able to practice one and the same dish, now there are challenges that I have no idea about. I think I need to practice emulsion type sauce.

– My morning routine, which is usually coffee for “News morning”, is now instead coffee and cookbooks for like 40 minutes every morning.
