Sebastian Samuelsson’s honest words about the crisis before the World Cup – now seen by the expert: “It’s strange”

Sebastian Samuelsson is not having it easy right now.
That worries him ahead of the World Cup.
– It’s strange, he says, while receiving criticism from the expert Björn Ferry.

Sebastian Samuelsson is our biggest biathlon star on the men’s side, and the expectations for him ahead of this season were high. He was dominant at times last winter, and reports from summer training indicated that he has only gotten stronger.

Heavy results

But that hasn’t really been the case. His season started well, although he struggled to finish on the podium. However, the indications were there, but since then it got worse. He is now in 13th place in the overall World Cup, and has also been sick for a week, which has kept him out of training.

The Biathlon World Cup starts on February 8th, less than a month from now, and there is great concern that he will not have time to get into the shape he had hoped for.

– It felt pretty good today and I’m quite fit in my body. But I’m a long way behind and I don’t know why. If I’ve been sick, it’s clear that you need some time to get started, says Samuelsson to SVT.

Samuelsson thinks overall that the season was worse than expected. He has shot worse than he did last year, and above all has been slower. And he doesn’t know why.

– Spontaneously, I feel something with my breathing, that I can’t find the rhythm for the first shot. It’s strange, I think I prepared well today, he says.

Björn Ferry, the former big star in biathlon and now an expert in SVT, believes that Samuelsson is far from where he should be – and also points out the big problem.

– For Samuelsson’s part, it’s the riding that sways, it was good at the beginning (of the season) and you thought that there might be another level and then it didn’t come and then he got sick, says Ferry, and continues:

– Samuelsson has a long way to go.
